We employ over 250 employees. In addition to the two bases (Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout), Bearskin employs passenger service agents at various counters in airports around Northern Ontario and Manitoba.

Qualifications: formal education in the Human Resources Field, college diploma a minimum, with at least five years experience in a HR department, preferably in a federally legislated environment. We also require Microsoft Word and Excel skills, communication both written and verbal, conflict resolution skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, collective agreement application and knowledge of Federal and Provincial labor laws. Periodic travel may be required. Preference will be given to those with Certification I and II Safety Training, or other formal safety credentials and aviation experience.

*NEW* PSA Summer Student Co-Op Placement - Thunder Bay Base

paw  Bearskin Airlines is currently seeking student applicants for a Passenger Service Agent co-operative education position at our Thunder Bay Base

A Passenger Service Agent's primary responsibility is to serve the general public in a pleasant, respectful manner while taking reservations, boarding passengers and accepting cargo. The Co-operative Education Student will be supervised by several managerial staff members and give the co-operative education student a large scope of exposure to real job duties of a Passenger Service Agent. The student will actively participate in checking in passengers and other customer service related activities as security and protocol procedures allow. The student will leave the placement with an overall understanding of all the expectations placed on Airline Agents in this field of study.

Qualifications: The applicant must be actively enrolled in the Travel and Tourism Diploma program at Confederation College. Data entry skills will be required to work with our reservations system. The ability to interact/relate to a wide variety of people and demands will ensure department success. The successful applicant must be a friendly and outgoing individual. Excellent customer service skills required. An open minded and mature approach, with confidentiality is a must.

Job shadow duties include basic skills but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assist to open and close the terminal, ensuring all flight operation duties are completed and report any irregularities;
  2. Assist to answer customer inquiries and complaints regarding fares, flight schedules and routes with good judgement, diplomacy and tact;
  3. Learn to compute costs of tickets and issue baggage receipts for customers;
  4. Assist in Booking reservations, write up invoices, price coupons and manifests, and understand the information required for good sales techniques
  5. Help to prepare delayed and damaged baggage reports as well as input information into computer;
  6. Assist to send out Transmit Passenger Manifest's to outstations on a daily basis;
  7. Learn the aspects of the handling of freight. The over the ticket counter requires the incumbent to participate in a training session to future obtain a Dangerous Goods Certificate.

Our scheduled fleet consists of 13 Metro III/23. We service 16 markets with over 100 departures daily. Currently our minimum qualifications include: 1000 hours total time and 100 hours Multi Engine with a valid Multi-IFR.

In addition to these minimum qualifications we value; communication skills, passenger service skills, northern flying experience and previous scheduled and/or charter experience.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and Apprentices

Bearskin Airlines operates two large maintenance facilities, one in Sioux Lookout and one in Thunder Bay. Our hangar in Sioux Lookout is the largest and most modern hangar at the airport. Our Thunder Bay hangar is 35,000 square and is one of the largest in the North.

Our maintenance teams carry out inspections and defect repairs on our aircraft, engines and avionics. The Thunder Bay base has an airframe shop, for structures and flight control rebuilding, and an overhaul shop responsible for overhauling aircraft components including welding and NDT capabilities. Thunder Bay also has an engine shop where we do the majority of our own engine work from repairs to overhauls for turbine engines.

Responsibilities include servicing, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, modification and functional testing of aircraft, including all aspects of maintaining aircraft.

Working as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or Apprentice can be exciting and rewarding at Bearskin Airlines due to the diversity of work available.

Passenger Service Agent

Ramp Attendants and Groomers

The Ramp Attendant is responsible for the safe movement of baggage and cargo to and from the aircraft, the operation of ramp servicing vehicles, marshalling aircraft, as well as the general maintenance of the Hanger and office facilities.

The incumbent must have a minimum grade ten education with a valid Ontario Class G driver's license. They must be able to lift approximately 23 kg/40 lb. while loading/unloading aircraft. Must be bondable in order to hold an airport security pass. The ability to interact/relate to a wide variety of people and demands will ensure departmental success.

Dispatch

Dispatchers work from our Thunder Bay base. The main responsibilities of the dispatcher are to provide updated changes in flight schedules, flight following and delay summaries.
